Cancel or rearrange an NCT

Manage the booking early and check the notice period before confirming a change.

Decide whether you need to move or cancel

Rearranging preserves a future appointment; cancelling removes the booking. If the car can still be presented on another date, compare the new date and centre before confirming. If you have sold the car, tell NCTS instead of leaving an appointment active.

Manage the appointment through NCTS

Open the official booking page and follow the option to manage the existing appointment. Keep your registration and confirmation handy. The national booking team can help on 01 413 5992 if the online process or status is unclear.

  • Check the existing date and centre.
  • Choose the intended change and read the fee shown.
  • Confirm only after checking the replacement details, if rearranging.
  • Save the cancellation or updated confirmation email.

Count the notice correctly

NCT terms require five working days’ notice, counting Monday to Friday and excluding the test day. Act earlier than the boundary where possible. The prepayment FAQ uses “more than” five days in places, while the terms refer to five days; for a booking exactly on the boundary, obtain the official fee quote or ask NCTS rather than relying on an unofficial date calculator.

What happens to a prepaid fee

For a late cancellation or no-show, the published deduction is €24 for a full test or €16 for an equipment retest; the balance is refunded. For a late rearrangement, the prepayment follows the booking and a rearrangement charge applies. Check the separate payment scenarios in the fees guide.

If NCTS changes the appointment

A cancellation by the operator is a different situation from your own late cancellation. Read the message and contact NCTS about rebooking and payment. Do not apply the customer no-show deduction to an operator cancellation without an explanation from NCTS.

If you think the charge is wrong

Keep the booking email, change confirmation and receipt. Contact NCTS customer service at [email protected] or 01 413 5994, explain the sequence and ask for the charge to be reviewed. Send the operator the relevant booking details; do not send card security codes.

Common questions

Is Saturday counted as a working day for cancellation?

The published NCT terms use Monday to Friday and exclude the test day. Saturday and Sunday are not part of that stated working-day count.

Does closing this guide cancel anything?

No. Only a completed cancellation through NCTS changes your appointment.

Why does the terms page also show a €51.62 charge?

That figure appears under the separate VRT online-booking section. It is not the published NCT full-test late-cancellation charge.
