1. Check the vehicle and the test you need
Start with the car’s registration and your existing NCT due date. An NCT roadworthiness test is different from a VRT registration appointment. If you have already failed an NCT, use the retest route and your inspection report rather than buying another full test without checking the deadlines.
- Use your own vehicle registration on the official website; this guide does not collect it.
- Check whether you already have an appointment before starting a new booking.
2. Choose a practical centre
Compare the address and Eircode in our directory before selecting a centre in the official booking system. Any NCT centre can be chosen; you are not restricted to your county. Account for the journey back for repairs or a retest as well as the outward trip.
- Cork-Blarney and Cork-Little Island are different locations.
- Northpoint 1 and Northpoint 2 are separate listings, even though they share a site area.
- An opening-hours entry is not an available appointment.
3. Enter the official booking flow
Go to the NCTS booking page and enter the registration. Follow its prompts for the test, centre and offered date. Read each message: some vehicles or booking situations require contact with NCTS. We have not submitted a registration or completed a transaction to create this guide.
- Review your registration, centre, date and time before payment.
- Provide contact details that NCTS can use to confirm or change the appointment.
- If only unsuitable dates appear, read the priority-list guide before cancelling any existing booking.
4. Complete payment and keep the confirmation
Pay only within the official NCTS flow. The operator sends an email when the booking is confirmed. Keep that email and payment receipt together so you can identify the appointment if a later change is necessary.
- A selected time or an unfinished payment screen is not a confirmed booking.
- Check your email address and spam folder if the message does not arrive.
- If payment appears on your bank account but confirmation is missing, contact NCTS before paying again.
5. Plan test day
Open the centre map, check the published hours for the relevant date and allow time for the entrance and check-in. Bring the presenter’s identification and vehicle documents. NCTS recommends arrival ten minutes early.
- Use the documents guide for the bag you take with you.
- Use the preparation checklist for the vehicle itself.
- Tell NCTS promptly if the car is sold or cannot be presented.
What applies to you?
Open the case that matches your situation. These notes guide your next step; they do not check your booking.
The calendar offers a date after I need the test
Use the official priority-list route or ask the national booking team for help. The list is not a promise of an immediate appointment.
The booking or payment stopped halfway
Do not assume the slot is held. Check the operator’s confirmation and payment messages, then contact NCTS if the status is unclear.

Common questions
Can I choose a centre outside my county?
Yes. NCTS says eligible motorists may choose any of its centres. Compare the actual journey and booking options.
Can I book more than 90 days early?
NCTS explains that a successful voluntary early test more than 90 days before the due date changes the certificate timing. Check the official explanation before deliberately booking that early.
Does this site reserve a slot?
No. All appointments and payment are handled by NCTS; the directory has no access to your booking.
